The BuildingTerms of use
Welcome to the building! By playing The Building you agree to these terms. Please read them – they are short.
1. The service
The Building is a free browser game offered "as is". It is currently an early prototype, so features may change, be reset or disappear while we develop it. Progress saved in your browser may be lost if your browser data is cleared or if a future update changes the save format.
2. Who can play
You must be at least 13 years old to play. If you are under the age of majority where you live, please make sure a parent or guardian agrees to these terms.
3. Acceptable use
Please be a good neighbor. You agree not to:
- harass, threaten, bully or impersonate other people;
- post hateful, sexually explicit, violent or otherwise offensive content;
- share personal information about yourself or others, such as addresses or phone numbers;
- spam, advertise, or post links to malicious or unrelated websites;
- cheat, exploit bugs, interfere with the service or try to access it in unauthorised ways;
- use automated scripts or bots to play or to collect data from the site.
4. Your content and chat
Character names, apartment designs and chat messages you create remain yours. To make the game work, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to store, display and transmit that content within The Building. Chat passes through an automatic profanity filter and rate limit. Once multiplayer is available we may remove content, mute or ban players who break these rules, and other players will be able to report or block you.
5. The residents are fictional
Characters marked with a Resident badge – such as Frank, Doris, Jake or Grandma Rose – are automated, fictional characters controlled by the game. Their messages are pre-written game dialogue, not advice and not messages from real people. Any resemblance to real persons is coincidental.
6. Our content
The game, its code, graphics, texts and the The Building name are protected by intellectual property laws. You may share screenshots and videos of your gameplay for non-commercial purposes; please do not copy or redistribute the game itself.
7. Advertising
In the future the game may display advertising in reserved spaces outside the play area. Ads are provided by third parties, and we are not responsible for the content of advertised websites.
8. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for the loss of game progress or data, arising from your use of The Building. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you.
10. Changes and termination
We may update these terms from time to time; the effective date above shows the latest version. If you keep playing after a change, you accept the updated terms. We may suspend or end access to the service, in whole or in part, at any time.
11. General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms, together with our privacy policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the game.
